Christmas-Aniversary Luncheon

Saturday, 15 December 2012

NOON

6550 E. Paseo Alcazaa

Anaheim Hills, CA 92807

Policy-Estelle does the meal, Stan provides wines, coffee*, tea*, water, you feel free to bring anything else you may want to drink.

You may also bring your favorite appetizers that do not require heating or use of the kitchen.

Dress California Saturday Casual.

At this time we expect:

Larry & Rosemary Ryan

Bill, Tsyako, Yoshiko Phelps

Rick & Diane Washburn,

Li-ying & Don Bridges

Stan & Estelle Solin

all of the above responded at the

6 October meeting.

Others receiving this e-mail please RSVP not later than 1 December 2012.

Tonight I plan to celebrate the end of 2012 political advertising and get back to watching Sesame Street.

Stay well my friends,

~Stan

On Saturday, 6 October 2012, the CIC Society Social Club met at the Buca di Beppo, Garden Grove, CA.

The meeting started with Sergeant-At-Arms Rick Washburn leading us in our pledge to "Old Glory".

Stan Solin then led us in a "NY Second"  (that's shorter than a "NY Minute") moment of silence as he

mourned the Red Sox 2012 season.

Don Bridges, Agent Report Book Reviewer, gave us his takes on "Legacy of Ashes-The History of the CIA, 2008,

by Tim Weiner and a new book, "The Axmann Conspiracy" 2012, ny Scott Andrew Shelby. Both well worth reading according to

Don. The books were then loaned to our "Pass-Around" library and taken by Rick and Stan.

Complete reports will be in the next Agent Report.

Estelle reported on the details of our Christmas-Anniversary luncheon. This SoCal Chapter started November 2005.

Stan reported on someone hacking his Yahoo mail list then send out a request for money to be sent to him in London.

So far Stan has received no money but did get four coupons for breakfast at Chick-Fil-A.

Don and Betty Alecock missed the meeting due to illness. It seems that Don ate a bad BLT while visiting Morrow Bay last Sunday

(30 September) and had not yet recovered. I called Betty 7 October, and Don is much better.

The Phelps famiy is a welcome addition to our group. Both Bill and Alan are baseball fans with teams in the playoffs, Baltimore and

San Francisco. Yoshiko wants her friends in the Baltimore area to know she is well and happy in southern California. However, she

noted it has been a bit warm. Not to worry-soon it will be snow----but not here.

We wish you all good health.

Just a reminder, this Saturday The Best and Brightest (That's us) will meet and eat at the Buca di Beppo Safe House,
11757 Harbor Blvd, Garden Grove, CA 92840 at NOON.
I've attached an Agenda so you can do homework and give me advice re Reunion 2013- even if you have no plans to attend,
I want to hear your thoughts. At this moment the plan is May 7-11, 2013 with Day of Remberance at Arlington Cemetery  on May 8.
Stay well,
~Stan

On 17 March 2012, The SoCalCIC Social Club met at the Katella Deli, Los Alimitos, CA for a St Patrick's Day lunch.
Those hardy souls braving the rare rain were Li-ying and Don Bridges, Rick and Diane Washburn, Bernie Thielen, Stan and Estelle Solin
and new member, Gordon Cooper. Gordon was a welcome walk-on, he just showed up and recognized the group from our mug shots on
Ozzie's web. Much of our discussion was based on getting to know Gordon, from Mission Viejo, CA, an Olympic Class runner in earlier years.
Another interesting topic was on a new ACICV member who appears to have served as an Agent at the age of 16.

The ladies discussed cooking and baking at their end of the table.

The Katella Deli was a perfect example of the Yogi Bera description, "Nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded." It was packed, but for good reason,
the food was great. However, while a big enough table set up is possible, zero privacy-and they don't take reservations-which means you don't get seated until everybody is there and they don't have an unlimited area for the larger than six groups, Katella Deli will be once in a while-perhaps our version of Oktoberfest.

Next luncheon will be noon, Saturday, 28 April 2012, at Buca di Beppo, 11757 Harbor Blvd, Garden Grove, CA, 92840

RSVP helpful, but not mandatory.

We hope Gordon will be accompanied by his wife, Linda, in April. Photos will be sent in a separate e-mail.
Note to Gordon: I was wrong, the 1952 Olympics were in Helsinki.

Stay well everybody,

Yo Spooksters,
Next meeting will be Saturday, 17 March 2012 at the Katella Deli, 4470 Katella Avenue, Los Alimitos, CA, 90720 at noon.
So far we are counting Li-ying & Don Bridges, Bernie Thielen and Estelle & I, that= 5 so far, we know Larry & Rosemary Ryan will be in Hawaii and Don & Betty Alecock have a family committment. It is imperative to know who is coming as we will not be seated until everybody is there.

We will return to our regular safe house (Buca de Beppo-Garden Grove) on Saturday 28 April, 2012, noon.

Katella Deli has Corned Beef & Cabbage on their menu.

On 21 January 2012 the SoCalCIC Social Club Chapter of the ACICV and NCICA met at the home of Stan & Estelle Solin.

Thirteen enjoyed a beef bourguignon lunch prepared by Estelle. The guests brought all of the great hors d'oerves.

Larry Ryan led us in the Pledge to the flag by all except Estelle who is not a citizen. She can pass a citizenship test untill she understands the infield fly rule.

At this time she thinks it has something to do with the third baseman's uniform. We disccussed the newest Agent Report which has already been received by

all except Stan. Stan lives in Anaheim, the book is mailed in Anaheim, go figure? Don Alecock celebrated his 90th birthday the previous Saturday-neither he nor his wife Betty have

changed in the six plus years since we met them-see what clean living does? Another topic was the passing of Jim Mallek due to a long illness. Claire Springer from O.K. City, Don

Bridges daughter was here taking care of Don who is yet refovering from recent surgery. Wife Li-ying returns from Taiwan  Thursday the 26th.

Next meeting will be at Bucca de Beppo, Harbor Blvd, Garden Grove, CA at NOON, Saturday, 25 February 2012. RSVP to Stan so we may be prepared.

Yo SoCal Spooksters,
On Saturday, 22 October 2011, the SoCal CIC Social Club lunched at the Buca di Beppo, 11757 Harbor Blvd, Garden Grove, CA, 92840.
The theme was nostalgia and Old Photos from our military "daze" were present.
They will appear in the next issue of the Agent Report due to be mailed January 2012.
Stan read Li-ying Bridges' report on husband Don's surgery 20 October-it sounds promising. Don will be wearing a neck collar for the next three months. With this in mind we set Saturday, 21 January 2012 as the date for our annual anniversary luncheon at the home of Estelle & Stan Solin.
Stan also reported that he had an e-mail from Bob Cronin indicating while he can no longer attend our luncheons he continues to enjoy reading about us and seeing the pictures.
Congratulations were due to Bernie Thielen upon his election to the board of directors of the NCICA. Stan's term has expired. This will be good to get a fresh mind on the board.
Many topics were covered including the Honor Flight program, a trip to Riverside to view the private military museum of a friend of Larry Ryan, Don Alcock will be bringing some of his WWII memorabilia to our luncheon in January, Don Alcock's 90th birthday coming up on 14 January 2012.
We were missing six regular attendees, Li-ying and Don Bridges, Rick and Diane Washburn attended the funeral of Diane's aunt, and Don Brownell and Lynda Loe were picking up Lynda's mom, Louise Dunmar at the John Wayne Airport.
Attached are some of the photos-we are still working on the others and will send out the balance later in the week-now I must prepare for today's World Series game.
Attached #40 is Larry Ryan, #41 Bernie Thielen, #42 Rosemary Ryan, #43 Betty and Don Alcock, #47 Estelle and  Rick Washburn (2 photos from Vietnam) Next with the cigar is Tom Hashimoto, Andrew Kish, and Stan in his 1954 Mercedes 170SV in Stuttgart, GY.
These and many more will be published in the AR#100.
I hope you can download these.

Theme for the next luncheon 22 October is "Those Were The Days"

I would like everybody to bring pictures of yourselves in uniform (or plain clothes) from your CIC days.

Instead of our usual photos I will run the oldies in the next issue of the Agent Report #100.

Don Bridges will not be attending as he is having surgery on the 20th-so Don & Li-ying please e-mail me something-
Of course the ladies are invited to contribute their photos-Betty & Tom-if you are not coming you too can e-mail me.

If you can't e-mail it is OK to US mail-they need the money.

Yo Spooksters,
As you know the report of our last meeting (20 August 2011) was sent attaching the pages that will appear in the next Agent Report-Ozzie has put them just as I sent them on the website acicv.org

It was an experiment on my part and doesn't work-the pages don't come out big enough----however the group photo is faboulous---I've been getting call from Hollywood Agents all day---Check it out- acicv.org then click on Forum then Activities and scroll down to us-

Don't forget--next meeting Saturday, 22 October 2011-Buca di Beppo, Harbor Blvd, Garden Grove---new time 11:58am--

ACICV Brandon, MO Reunion will be 7-11 May 2012.
Bill Ward promises details in time for the next AR which will be mailed  late October 2011---

Stay well-
~Stan

Saturday, 20 August 2011, the CIC Social
Club of Southern California met at Buca
di Beppo Restaurant, 11757 Harbor Blvd,
Garden Grove, CA, 92840.
Pledge of allegiance was led by Sergeant-of-
arms Rick Washburn.
Welcomed to the group was Lynda Loe and
Don Brownell. Lynda is the daughter Louise
Dunmar, Albuquerque, NM. Her dad was an
ACICV member and her son won three of
our scholarship awards. The son presently is
an Intelligence Officer with the DIA.

We all discussed our ideas of how to fix the
national debt problem. The congressional
group individually hasn’t a clue on how to
fix it-so as a committee they will meet for
a few taxpayer paid dinners and conclude
nothing-we could do no worse.
Don Bridges idea of Uncle Sam giving
everybody $10,000 to “stimulate” whatever
needs stimulating won the prize, a 3’x5’ US
flag from the USO.

On Saturday, 18 June 2011, nine of the CIC Social Club of Southern California met at Buca di Beppo for a spirited lunch. Conflicting schedules was the main reason for the sparse attendance, certaintly not the weather.
After discussing most of the Nation's problems the conversation switched to the ACICV 2012 Reunion-from today's group only Don Bridges, Stan & Estelle Solin are regular Reunion goers-their choice is for a cruise  for 2012.
Betty & Don Alecock have visited, but not stayed at, The Shades of Green near Orlando, Florida and described it as beautiful.
Next meeting will be Saturday, 20 August 2011, at our safehouse-Buca di Beppo, Garden Grove, CA. 11:30 am as usual.
Stan invited everybody to his birthday party Wednesday, 3 August 2011, at the Ten Ten Restaurant in Anaheim. This is an RSVP must, 40 seats maximum, so 4 are still open. Rules, NO GIFTS-be on time 7PM-sit next to a stranger-(well try to).

On 26 February 2011, the CIC Social Club of SoCal met at their "Safehouse", Buca di Beppo, 11757 Harbor Blvd., Garden Grove, CA 92840. Attending were Don & Betty Alecock, Rick & Diane Washburn, Larry & Rosemary Ryan, Stan & Estelle Solin, Edie Scharfe, and Kathy Coffin.
Tom & Betty Hashimoto decided not to fight the San Diego rain storm, however, in Garden Grove it was bright sunshine. At this writing we do not know why the expected Bernie Thielen failed to appear.
Don & Li-ying Bridges are still not able to attend because of Don's knee problem, Norma Brown's mom is in the hospital so she & husband, John Encaracao missed the party.

Kathy Coffin & Bernie Thielen, both from Iowa, share 2 March as their birthday-we celebrated without Bernie. The Buca singers, Tim, Casey and Kim presented the birthday brownie and all joined in the singing and rhythm clapping.

We discussed both the ACICV Reunion (New Orleans May 2011) and the NCICA Convention (Bloomington, MN September 2011).

Next meeting will be at the same "Safehouse", Saturday, 16 April, 11:30 am- all interested parties are welcome-

We order what we want-everybody pays their own check-

The photos tell the story.

Joining our regulars were Norma Brown & her husband John Encaracao. Norma is the Educational VP in my Toastmasters breakfast club that meets at the Jagerhaus every Tuesday morning (plug). Her husband John Encaracao is a USMC Vet who learned about North Korean Cuisine as a POW after 27 July 1953.

However, Tom will be attending the funeral/memorial service for our late departed member Dick Gardner to be held 22 October 2010 in San Diego. The San Diego Cemetery has become somewhat of an "Arlington West". Stan & Rick might drive down on the 22d.

The ACICV New Orleans Reunion (15-19 May 2011) was discussed with a few questions such as why is it $100 more for two people staying at the hotel-and
$125 more per person if the individual(s) are not staying at the Hqs Hotel.

The group tried to call Jim twice during the luncheon but received no answer to the calls.

Stan announced that at the moment over 200 previous subscribers had not renewed their subscriptions to the Agent Report beyond 2009.
This will affect the Agent Report budget substantially, but not fatally. Obviously it will be different.

The Jagerhaus German restaurant in Anaheim is being considered for the October Luncheon keeping the Octoberfest theme in mind.
Jagerhaus is owned by a former Army Brat.  Her dad was graduated from West Point in the class of 1940 and he served 30 years.  Just passed away last year at age 94.

Next SoCalCIC meeting will be Saturday, 17 April 2010, at our, "Safe House" the Garden Grove Buca di Beppo.  Same time 11:30am.
RSVP to SoCalCIC@yahoo.com or call Stan at (714) 998-1562.
